What To Expect In Counseling

When you are anxious, depressed, or new to something it is helpful to have an idea of what to expect.

I prefer to think about our first session as a casual conversation about why you are seeking therapy, and what you wish to gain from being in therapy. You will receive paperwork from me prior to the first session that describes policies, procedures, and limits to confidentiality. If we are doing a video session then I will send you the link you need to get to my virtual waiting room. If we are doing an in-person session and you need directions, I am happy to provide those.

I believe that when people seek help, they deserve the best help possible. So, I incorporate a combination of innovative and well- researched methods of therapeutic interventions, with the empathy and support that I would want from a therapist. I am not an intimidating therapist, and my clients often tell me that I have a calming presence/energy.

As your sessions continue, we will come up with a plan that addresses why you came to therapy, and what you want to gain from therapy. I do believe in feedback, so your opinion is very important to me. I will want to know what is working for you therapy and what is not. You remain in control of what steps you are willing take, when you are ready to take those steps, and the support you allow along the way.
